The
Well-Child Care curriculum can be used to
meet provider training and program needs in a manner that is
cost-effective, widely accessible,
and easily adaptable. The curriculum is designed to offer users
the following:
Access
to Training Materials and Resources
The distance-learning
format of the curriculum helps to eliminate barriers faced
by many
providers in geographically remote areas.
For practitioners and other health professionals in all regions,
the curriculum provides ready access to training materials
and resources on pediatric preventive care. The curriculum
is available
through a standard Internet connection from an office, hospital,
public computer lab, library, or home computer.
Increased
Training Capacity
The curriculum
is designed for use as self-directed individual tutorials,
in on-site training sessions, or with
groups at
remote locations. By eliminating barriers (limited
budgets, time away
from work, travel restrictions), the curriculum enables
states with training sites located miles from those seeking
instruction
to provide or increase educational capability and availability.
Coordinated
MCH and Medicaid/EPSDT Training Opportunities
For states
interested in improving coordination between MCH and Medicaid
professionals
and in creating shared training
opportunities,
the curriculum highlights similarities in the content
of preventive and health-promotion services in both systems
of primary care.
Improved
Interdisciplinary Skills
Training
modules on developmental and behavioral health and on dental/oral
health are intended to
enhance interdisciplinary
knowledge
and skills in these two critical areas. The training
modules are based primarily on the Bright Futures in Practice
mental
health
guide and oral health pocket guide.
Professional
Development Opportunities
This curriculum
offers practitioners and other health professionals the possibility
of fulfilling
job requirements,
maintaining
certifications and/or licensures, and exploring professional
development opportunities.
For a fee, those who register for and successfully
complete the entire curriculum with a score of 70% or
better will
be eligible
to receive CME credits awarded through Georgetown
Hospital or CEU credits through Georgetown University.
Options
for Adaptability
Although
national in scope, the curriculum is designed for maximum adaptability
to meet state or local
needs.
Periodicity
and screening
schedules can be modified to reflect state requirements
and to address the unique needs of providers or
the populations they serve.
For information about adapting or customizing the
curriculum, please contact the Bright Futures
Well-Child Care project
at Georgetown
University.
