Module 1: Health History

Overview

Time Needed to Complete Module 1: 30 minutesModule 1 focuses on the importance of the health and developmental history and includes a summary of the initial, interval, and adolescent history. The module also provides information on conducting effective health interviews and offers sample interview questions for use in infancy, early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescent health visits.

Guiding Questions

Users who complete the Health and Developmental History module should be able to answer the following questions:

  • Why is a comprehensive health and developmental history an important part of pediatric preventive care?

  • What areas of health and development are included in an initial history? In an interval history?

  • How do adolescent histories differ from those of younger children? What additional topics are covered?

  • Which communication techniques help to produce effective health interviews?
